With the growing demand of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) new regulations are agreed on to ensure that customers can expect a common standard in regard of the quality and safety of the purchased vehicle. Two noticeable regulations are the EU7 and the CARB regulation. The main focus of these regulations are the prevention of thermal runaway and propagation, the cyber security and the lifetime requirements. Both regulations are pushing the boundaries for the service lifetime requirements of BEVs. Violations against these regulations can lead to a callback if a certain percentage threshold is exceeded. On the one hand the question arises as to what extent the usage behavior in Germany of BEVs differs compared to Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles. On the other hand, it is important to know how the operation of BEVs in Germany distinguishes from BEVs around the globe. Furthermore, the problem arises on how to identify those usage behavior that lead to an accelerated aging that could interfere with the regulations and how to ensure with testing that those vehicles comply with the regulations. In this presentation an overview of the regional differences in the operation of BEVs will be presented. In addition to that, a methodology will be represented which allows vehicle manufacturers to identify usage behaviors of customers based on the available fleet data that result in certain aging scenarios and can use those results to derive test cases. Thereby, we are able to get to know the regional differences and identify vehicles at given different boundary conditions of interest (e.g. SoH, mileage, age). Furthermore, with the presented methodology the audience is able to extended it to other use cases where fleet data is present and other Key Performance Indicators are of keen interest.
