Towards sustainable recycling of spent Li-ion batteries
Lecture
Active materials for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) demand for electromobility, portable electronics and gride energy storage applications is ramping up dramatically. This has heightened the need for battery precursors materials to supply the emerging gigafactories globally. However, in the light of the scarcity of critical raw material resources such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, developing efficient and affordable recycling processes has become an essential needed action. Therefore, recycling spent LIBs is crucial for recovering materials and reintegrating them into the battery supply chain promoting thus the resource conservation. However, recycling processes face several challenges related to the cost and quality of recycled materials. In this work, low cost, efficient, and green recycling processes of cathode active materials will be presented.
