The transition from fossil-fueled to electric vehicles demands significant improvements in battery technology to achieve rapid charging, higher energy density, and long cycle-life. To overcome these challenges, a deep understanding of the chemical processes occurring within batteries during charging/discharging is required.

This presentation will provide an insight into Magnetic Resonance techniques, especially Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) applied for local structure characterization of energy storage materials. The Advanced Magnetic Resonance Technologies can be used to understand storage properties of electrodes, to monitor dendrite deposition, to probe ion-dynamics across interfaces and to understand formation of solid electrolyte interphase at the molecular level. Revealing electrochemical reaction pathways in batteries contributes to the development of safer, more efficient, and longer-lasting batteries. The presentation will give an overview of current research applications and future directions, emphasizing the potential of solid-state NMR and EPR in both academic and industrial battery research and development environments.
